When working from home or remotely, staff may need a VPN client to securely connect to the PLS network to access the U drive or remotely connect to their work desktops. If you’re working inside a PLS building, you do not need to use a VPN.

There are two VPN clients installed on staff laptops: GlobalVPN and NetExtender . GlobalVPN typically offers better performance, but it may not work on every network. If you experience issues, try switching to NetExtender.

Connecting to the PLS Network
To connect to the PLS admin building network, open a VPN client and use the following settings:

NetExtender or GlobalVPN
Server: plsvpn.pioneerlibrarysystem.org:4433
Domain: pls.lib.ok.us
Your username
Your network password

Once connected, your device will function as if you were inside a PLS building. You’ll be able to access the U drive and launch Remote Desktop Connection to access your desk PC.

Remote Desktop Connection

Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) lets you control your office PC as if you were sitting at your desk. When working at a PLS location and connected to PLS Wi-Fi, you do not need a VPN to use RDC. However, if you're working outside our network, you must first connect using the VPN client before launching Remote Desktop.

To connect to your office PC, you'll need the device name (usually your desk PC). You can find it by searching "About" in the Windows start menu and selecting "About your PC." The device name usually follows this format: PLS-YOURNAME-TAG#.

When you start RDC, enter the name of the PC you're connecting to, followed by your network username and password. A new window will open displaying your office desktop, allowing you to work as if you were physically there.

VPN Connection Reminders
Please note that if your laptop goes to sleep or restarts, you will need to reconnect to the VPN to continue working remotely.

Finding VPN and RDC Software
NetExtender, GlobalVPN, and Remote Desktop Connection can all be found by searching in the Windows start menu. You can right-click the icon and select "Pin to Start Menu" or "Pin to Taskbar" for quicker access.
